At one time there were not many airline credit cards available to choose from. The first miles credit cards airline was the Citi AAdvantage MasterCard, which is still available today. Although this card has much to offer, not necessarily the best airline credit card for all.

The evolution of credit cards Airline

Over time, credit cards airline miles began to evolve. Shortly after the Citi AAdvantage MasterCard hit the market, the United Airlines Plus Mileage card offered through a partnership with United Airlines. Shortly after the Continental Airlines followed by Continental Airlines World MasterCard. The leaders of miles airline credit card industry started what has become a popular choice of credit cards for frequent travelers.

Working with airlines

The partnerships between credit card companies and airlines put a new face on credit cards airline. Today, there are also many credit cards airline to choose from as there are airlines. The majority of credit card airline is pretty much the same, although subtle shades may vary from card to card. With all these cards, the miles you earn are good for use only with the airline named on the card. The only exception to this is if the company has subsidiaries. In this case, the miles can be good with sister airline, as well.

Generic Airline Credit Cards

Apart from the huge number of credit card airline formed in collaboration with airlines, there are many generic credit cards. In this case, the word "general" is not correct for off brand or low quality. Instead, these cards allow you to earn airline miles that you can use with any airline of your choice. Typically, these cards work by assigning each airline miles a monetary value, usually 1 or 2 cents per mile. You can then use these miles to buy a ticket through the credit card company that the company has acquired from the airline at a reduced price.

In general credit card airline, you are given much more freedom to decide which airline to use. This allows you to choose the airline that runs a flight at the time and location that is best for you. It also allows you to benefit from market fluctuations in the prices of tickets on one airline to another.

Additional Perks

Besides the number of miles needed to earn free travel with credit cards airline should consider the additional benefits offered. For example, so that the airline credit cards only offer special discounts for air travel. On the other hand, some cards allow you to redeem your points for other needs related to travel such as car rentals, cruises, hotel stays and vacation packages.

You should also pay attention to the special incentives offered by miles credit cards airline. Some allow you to earn bonus miles through some markets. For example, you might be able to earn bonus miles with a credit card that has worked with a specific airline, if you make purchases from that airline's credit card.

Apart from incentives, some credit card airline offers sign up bonuses. It is quite common for a credit card airline offered 5,000 miles bonus after using the card for the first time. The Gold Delta SkyMiles Credit Card and American Express credit cards offer bonus 10,000 miles. Of course, you should look out for how many miles it takes to win a free ticket. The average number of miles required by the airline credit cards is 25,000, but you should always read all the fine print first before making a decision.
